Using Art to Drive a Story
Using Art to Drive a Story In our most recent Writer's Club, we studied two paintings from Claude-Joseph Vernet. Dissecting elements of each painting beforehand aided us in creating narratives taking place in both landscapes. Students had their stories travel between A Storm on the Mediterranean Coast and A Calm at a Mediterranean Port. The [...]

Exquisite Corpse, A Game

This collaborative approach, when applied to poetry, allows each contributor to add to the verse only by reading the line before it. Exquisite Corpse was a BLAST at our last Writer's Club! It’s such an interesting […]

Music-Inspired Writing

Last week's Writer's Club had us exploring our relationship with music, and utilizing the feelings it inspires to fuel our writing! Students listened to Once Upon a Time in the West by Ennio Morricone to build a landscape/setting, then built out a short story to go with it. It provoked stories of freedom, war and survivalism. Enjoy this one from Haden (age 12).
